Component weighting for supply & fit products

Component weighting

If you are pricing a rate build up on a supply & fit basis, you will need to understand how components and component weighting is used for each product.

When a supply & fit product is used in a rate build up, component weighting will need to be completed. Not all component elements will have a value which is equally split between them, so Chalkstring allows component 'weighting' to be changed to allow for different component values. This will normally be provided by your subcontractors and is used to proportion their payment applications when applying for payment for work completed. By default, components are split at an equal percentage.

Downloading supply and fit quote

Once the required products have been added to your assessment and the products set to supply and fit, you can download a quote request spreadsheet to send to your subcontractors for pricing. This spreadsheet also allows the component weighting to be updated.

  1. Navigate to the 'Assessment overview' page for the assessment you are working on.
  2. Click on 'Assessment actions' in the top right corner.
  3. Click 'Generate supply & fit quote request'.
  4. This will download a copy of the quote request. Open the downloaded file.
  5. Details on completing the quote request are at the top of the spreadsheet.

Example supply & fit quote request spreadsheet

Once this spreadsheet has been completed by the subcontractor and sent back, it can be imported and applied to the rate build up.

Example rate build up on a supply & fit basis

Applying the quote request to your assessment will update the component weighting in the spreadsheet to the products in the assessment.

A) A stud wall is quoted at £150 per linear metre.

B) The first component 'Deflection Head & Studs' may only contain 32% of the value of the product.

C) The second component may contain 23% of the value of the product.

D) 25% for the '2nd fix insulation & boarding'.

E) 20% for 'plastering'.

These weightings will allow the subcontractor to claim £48 for the 1st component (taking into account the contingency and rounding), £34.50 for the 2nd, £37.50 for the 3rd and £30 for the 4th.

This also allows the subcontractor to apply for higher amounts for the higher value components of the product.
