Advanced Drawing Comparison and Overlay Capabilities

The overlay function allows users to compare multiple drawing versions directly within the takeoff interface. Additional drawings can be uploaded as overlays, aligned precisely with the main drawing using point-based tools. Users can adjust colours and transparency for clarity and toggle overlays on or off without affecting existing measurements or markups.

NOTE: We strongly recommend that users using takeoff in Chrome, experiencing slowness with drawings, disable the hardware/graphics accelerator setting. Instructions can be found here: https://www.howtogeek.com/412738/how-to-turn-hardware-acceleration-on-and-off-in-chrome/

This is a common requirement for applications with a high graphic content.

How To Upload An Overlay Drawing

From the left hand navigation bar, select the takeoff section

  1. Navigate to your drawing
  2. You will need to first set the scale for the drawing if it hasn't already been done.
  3. From the drawing, click the 'Overlay' button in the top left corer
  4. Click the white '+' button
  5. Drag and drop into the hashed box or click to browse to your drawing to overlay upload image.
  6. Select a colour for your overlay drawing and click 'Upload drawing'.

7. Select at least 2, or ideally 3, separate points on the overlay drawing that you want to
use to align it to the original drawing.

8. Repeat the process on the original background drawing, ensuring the points correspond to the same location as the points set on the overlay image in the previous step.

9. Click 'Save when happy with the overlay location, or click 'Redo alignment' to set the points again.

10. The overlay drawing should now appear for you to see. You can use the checkbox
next to the overlay drawing in the left toolbar to show/hide that layer.

11. To change any properties of the overlay layer you can click the edit pencil.

12. Use the options to change the name, colour and opacity or delete the overlay layer. You can also redo the alignment process.
