Variations
Variations are anything that are required once a project is onsite that hadn’t been included for in the tender scope.
Being able to charge for variations depends on what they are and what contract was agreed with the client.
Accepting a variation once instruction to proceed has been received
- Expand the main Chalkstring black menu bar and click on the ‘Projects’ menu.
- Search for and click the 'Project' to add the variation to.
- Within the project homepage, click ‘Project hub’ sub menu.
- Click on the sub menu for assessment where the variation is to be added.
- Click on the ‘Rate Build Up’ sub menu.
- Click the ‘Add product’ button.
- Search for the product that was agreed with a client as part of the process in article How to add and structure a variation.
- Click the product to add it to the rate build up.
- Apply any live quotes to product where Chalkstring has highlighted they are missing.
New products added to the onsite rate build up will be tagged as a variation.
Fixing the price of the variation
The price of the variation will need to be manually fixed at the price agreed with the client.
- For the product to be fixed, click the white open padlock symbol.
- Enter the agreed client figure
- Click ‘Update Fixed Price’.
Chalkstring will establish the overhead and profit margins for the variation by working back from the agreed price.
Adding quantities for the variation
- Click on the bill of quantities sub menu.
- Using the filters search for the variation by name
- Enter the quantities for each variation. See article ‘How to complete the bill of quantities section of an assessment’ for further details.
Once the rate build up and bill of quantities are complete, the assessment overview for the package will update and include all the cost, revenue and margin data for the scoped variations. The material and labour elements will also be automatically filtered into the scope of what needs to be ordered or procured by the site team.
